Heat treatment as means to improve the mechanical property of aluminum casting is widely used in aluminum gravity casting foundries. The main heat treatment types used for aluminum gravity cast products are T5 and T6 heat treatment. T5 is stress release by thermal heat treatment, while T6 is Solution heat treated and artificially aged. T5 and T6 can be done by the same heat treatment equipments with different process parameter setting. Normally an electric quenching furnace and an electric aging furnace are used together to process T5 and T6 heat treatment for aluminum gravity cast products.

The quenching and aging process can be controlled precisely to achieve the desired hardness effectively. T5 heat treatment of aluminium gravity casting

T5 heat treatment of aluminum gravity cast product is to release the casting stress by thermal heat treatment. The aluminum gravity cast products should be separated by different casting alloy and different contour size, then put into the a certain iron crate. The full iron crate will be elevated into the quenching furnace automatically. The aluminum cast products should be heated to around 520? and keep in the furnace for around 8 hours with the same top temperature. The critical temperature and the keeping hours configuration depends on the different casting alloy used for the product. Normally the chemical composition of the aluminum cast products should be analyzed before heat treatment. The T5 heat treatment normally can achieve the handiness to HB70 plus for the aluminum gravity cast products after process.

T6 heat treatment of aluminium gravity casting

T6 heat treatment of aluminum gravity cast product is the process of Solution heat treating and artificially ageing. The aluminum gravity cast products first should be separately and put into the iron crate as T5 heat treatment does. The mostly important difference is the critical temperature setting and quenching time for the aluminum parts. Normally the critical temperature should be increase to 535? - 540? and keep it for more than 10 hours as the whole solution heating process, then drop the crate with the aluminum gravity cast products into a salt water tank suddenly within 2-3 seconds for cooling. The quenched aluminum gravity castings are delivered into the aging furnace under a temperature of 200? for more than 8 hours. The aluminum cast parts after T6 heat treatment can achieve hardness of HB80 plus.
